Bluetooth headphones can play sound a little later than the player clock. When that happens, lyrics that normally line up with the track may appear ahead of what you hear. PlanetMusic’s Audio Delay Test helps you find a correction, and the Sync Delay control applies it to live lyrics during regular playback.
1. What the Audio Delay Test does
The test plays a short series of beeps for 10 seconds. Tap Tap when you hear a beep (or press Arrow Down) when you expect each beep to sound. PlanetMusic compares your taps with the beep output times and uses the median of matched responses as a suggested correction. Missed beeps are ignored.
This is a practical listening calibration, not a lab measurement of your headphones’ exact Bluetooth latency. Your output device and timing can affect the result, so use it as a starting point and adjust by ear if needed.
2. Run the test and save your correction
1. Open Settings and find Audio Delay Test.
2. Connect the headphones and output device you plan to use, then select Start 10-second test.
3. Listen to the beeps and tap or press Arrow Down when you expect each one. Keep going until the test ends.
4. Review the calculated delay in milliseconds. You can edit the value if the lyrics still feel early or late; supported adjustments range from -250 ms to +250 ms.
5. Select Save adjustment. This saves the correction in your settings so the playback toggle can use it. Reset adjustment removes the saved custom correction.
A positive or negative value represents the direction of the timing correction. Rather than chasing a particular sign, use the measured value first and refine it while listening if necessary.
3. Turn on Sync Delay for normal playback
Saving a correction does not turn the playback adjustment on by itself. To enable it:
1. Open a song that has synced lyrics.
2. In the song panel, find the headphone button labeled Sync Delay: [value] ms.
3. Click it so the button becomes active. Click it again any time you want to turn the correction off.
When enabled, PlanetMusic offsets the live lyric display by your saved correction, helping lyrics line up with sound arriving through Bluetooth headphones. The on/off choice is remembered on this device, and the button is available during normal playback when the song has synced lyrics. If you have not saved a custom correction, the player uses its 200 ms default.
4. What changes - and what does not
Sync Delay changes when synced lyrics appear on screen; it does not change the audio, rewrite a song’s saved lyric timestamps, or resync the music itself. It is separate from the Bluetooth prompt in the Sync Workspace, which can apply a correction to newly manual-synced lines. For ordinary listening, use the song panel’s Sync Delay button.
TIP: Calibrate with the same headphones and audio route you use for listening. If you switch output devices, run the test again and tune the saved value until the lyrics feel aligned.
Fine-tune for your listening setup
Bluetooth delay varies by headphones, operating system, and output path, and the tap test includes human anticipation and reaction. Treat its result as a practical starting point rather than a device specification. Save the correction, enable Sync Delay on a song with synced lyrics, and compare lyric onset with the sound. If the lines appear too early or too late, edit the milliseconds value and listen again.
The correction is a display offset for live lyric following during regular playback. It does not alter the track, edit timestamps in the Sync Workspace, or apply to every audio/video interface in the same way. If you change headphones or audio routing, retest and toggle the feature off when you do not want the lyric offset.
