Importing & Exporting Translations (.TXT)

#Import#Export#TextFiles#Translation#Workflow

Sometimes you’d rather not use the automatic translations at all. Maybe you found a great translation online, or you’re fluent and wrote your own in a text editor. Either way, you can load it straight into the app.

1. Exporting the template

In the Translation Workspace, click Export Text. It downloads a .txt file with your original lyrics, broken down block by block.

Each block is separated by a blank line.

2. Formatting the text file

Open the .txt file in any text editor. PlanetMusic tells the blocks apart by those blank lines, so keep them.

A well-formatted block looks like this:

[lang: ja]
君の声が聞こえる
Kimi no koe ga kikoeru
I can hear your voice

From top to bottom, a block has:

1. The language tag (optional): Wrapped in brackets.
2. The original lyric.
3. The phonetic transliteration (optional).
4. The English translation.

If you don’t need a pronunciation line, just put the translation directly under the original lyric.

3. Importing back into the app

When you’re done editing your .txt file, click Import Text in the Translation Workspace.

PlanetMusic reads your file, matches the original lyrics to the rows on your screen, and fills in all the text boxes with your custom data. If a lyric doesn’t match, it falls back to the block’s position, so keep your blocks in order. Hit Save Changes and you’re done.

Keep the blocks aligned

Use Export Text from the same song you plan to update; its blocks follow that song’s current translation rows. Keep the blank line between blocks and leave the original lyric line unchanged when possible. Import first matches original lyrics without regard to letter case, then uses the block’s position for unmatched text. Reordering blocks can therefore send a translation to the wrong row when its lyric text does not match.

The language, pronunciation, and translation lines are optional where documented, but the original lyric is the anchor. After importing, scan the rows in the workspace, correct any positional fallback, and choose Save Changes. Exporting a text template does not apply edits automatically.
